As I understand it, it is not unusual for a company to go out of business, and someone else will buy their assets, which in the case of a glass company, includes the molds for the glasses. If the design is easy to modify, the "new" owner will often make a modification to make it easy to tell the glasses made by the original manufacturer, and which were made by the "new" company. The "Just a Thimble Full" glasses are another example -- the originals have a mark on the inside base, while the reproductions do not have the mark.

As far as I know, all McKee Bottoms up glasses contained the patent number. All glasses without the number are considered reproductions.
