Well, it's definitely as small as I say it is. But it's also not a stopper (as I originally thought) unless it is a very specialized stopper. We have several decanters of varying quality from the garden variety to the cut crystal variety and this article would never suffice.

Several indicators that this is not a stopper: (1) the glass walls near the "top" are too thin and would easily break if used for a stopper. (2) the "bottom" (which would be the "top" of a stopper) is imperfect and slightly concave ... like a shot glass.

The couple I bought it from said a friend brought it to them from Germany as a gift. As a shot glass. But I have yet to see or hear of another one. It can't be that rare!

Anyone else have any ideas?

: Although it looks like a "combo" shot if it is as small as you say it is, it is probably just a stopper from a decanter. Although most "fancy" decanters have solid stoppers, I have seen hollow ones.

: : Carl emailed me and thinks this is a "Quaffer" (quaffer.com). However, Quaffers and doubles or shooter/chasers contain about 3.5 to 4 ounces each. This glass contains less than 2 ounces total. I really don't think it is a combo glass. It is too small. Thanks for the info, Carl.
